Product Authentication on Your Wrist: TAGBASE on the Newland WD5
What if warehouse employees could verify a product’s authenticity without reaching for a smartphone or carrying a separate handheld scanner?
Through our partnership with Newland AIDC, we tested the TAGBASE verification experience on the Newland WD5 wearable device, and it works exceptionally well.
TAGBASE allows companies to configure and manage secure NFC tags from NXP Semiconductors, including:
- NTAG 424 DNA
- NTAG 424 DNA TagTamper
- NTAG 223 DNA
Our configurator app also works directly on the WD5. This means supported NFC tags can be securely configured using a compact device worn on the wrist.
However, the most exciting application is what happens after the tags have been deployed.
Product verification without taking out a phone
In warehouses, production facilities, logistics operations and service environments, employees may need to authenticate products or retrieve information repeatedly throughout the day.
With TAGBASE running on the Newland WD5, the process becomes remarkably simple:
- Hold the watch close to the product’s NFC tag.
- TAGBASE verifies the tag and the product’s digital identity.
- The authenticity result and relevant product information appear directly on the user’s wrist.
There is no need to take out a smartphone or carry another handheld device. The NFC reader and the information needed for the next step are always within reach.
During our testing, the experience felt fast, intuitive and genuinely practical. The TAGBASE interface works well on the WD5’s compact display, making it easy to configure tags, perform authenticity checks and access essential information.
Designed for real operational environments
Wearable NFC devices can make a meaningful difference wherever employees regularly handle products, packaging or equipment.
Potential applications include:
- Authenticating products during receiving and dispatch
- Checking high-value or security-sensitive goods
- Retrieving product and batch information
- Supporting inventory and warehouse processes
- Recording inspections, maintenance or service activities
- Identifying suspicious, replaced or manipulated items
The WD5 is therefore much more than a smaller alternative to a smartphone. Combined with secure NXP NFC technology and the TAGBASE platform, it becomes a practical tool for bringing trusted product information directly into operational workflows.
A strong combination of technologies
This setup brings together three important components:
- Secure NFC technology from NXP Semiconductors
- Compact, wearable enterprise hardware from Newland AIDC
- Product identity, tag configuration and verification technology from TAGBASE
We highly recommend exploring the Newland WD5 for environments where employees regularly work with NFC-tagged products and want an efficient, phone-free experience.
